Service Description
Brief history: Built by Tokugawa Ieyasu in 1603 as his Kyoto residence. Importance: Stage of the “Taisei Hōkan” (Return of Power to the Emperor) in 1867, which ended the samurai government. Main Route & Highlights East Ote-mon Gate & outer defenses Karamon Gate Ninomaru Palace (National Treasure) Gorgeous Kano-school wall paintings and gold-leaf rooms Audience halls used by the shoguns Ninomaru Garden (Special Place of Scenic Beauty) Honmaru area & castle keep foundation (optional if time allows) Wear comfortable shoes (gravel paths and some steps). Photography rules inside the palace will be explained. Estimated duration: 1.5 hours. Ninomaru Palace + the basic castle admission ticket are included in the tour price. Meeting point remains: Left side of the Nijo Castle Ticket Office (East Ote-mon Gate side).
